The Hire & Rental Industry Association’s Convention commenced on the 29th May 2018, with 3 of our Sales & Rental Managers attending the Young Professionals Welcome Drinks at The Loft, West End; Chris Cunliffe, Brock Cunliffe & Robbie Knowles. This program is specifically designed for the Young Professionals in the hire industry to support the career development of future leaders.
“The HRIA welcome drinks for young professionals was an enlightening experience. Whilst it was unusual to be interacting in an environment that was made up of strictly the younger generation, the networking experience was filled with informed conversation and positivity about the future of the industry.
The HRIA event co-ordinators staged the evening perfectly, providing a healthy balance of food and drinks as well as navigating the room interacting with and prompting a wide array of conversation between all participants.” – Chris Cunliffe (pictured right, second from the left)
On the morning of the 30th May, our QLD Hire Coordinator – Sharon Jaschinski attended the Women in Hire Breakfast on the Rydges Hotel rooftop. With guest speaker Naomi Simson (Founder of RedBalloon and investor on Channel 10’s Shark Tank), the HRIA are supporting women in the hire sector to break down the barriers through mentorship, awareness & education.
Sharon was delighted to attend saying just how much she loved the venue, food, Naomi and the whole experience; “The venue was a roof top room with beautiful views and the breakfast the venue provided was delicious. It was a great opportunity to meet customers and suppliers and put faces to names of Ladies we normally talk to over the phone. Naomi Simson was a fantastic motivational speaker, she walks the talk and impressed me with her unwavering energy and drive in believing she can make a difference, and she does! I have never met anyone who loves what they do more than Naomi. I left with an extra spring in my step and a smile on my face.”
Wednesday also marked the first day of the 2 Day Convention, which this year was held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, hosting 112 Hire Companies. Delegates from Fork Force included; Steve Cunliffe (Managing Director), Gareth Clegg (General Manager – Sales & Rental), Mick Hobson (Wholesale Sales & Rental Manager) & Krissy Hulett (National Purchasing Manager).
The show was another record breaking event, with 1550 attendees through the doors. This represented a great opportunity for Fork Force to showcase its new and current product range whilst establishing and maintaining great relationships with new and existing customers.
To celebrate the 50 years of the Hire and Rental Industry Association’s Conventions, Fork Force staff attended the welcome drinks function located on the Sky Terrace at BCEC. Joining the team was Mr. Jiro Noguchi; Fork Force’s Director from Japan alongside Steve Cunliffe, Gareth Clegg & Mick Hobson.
The welcome drinks is a casual event which gives attendee’s a good opportunity to network whilst also a chance to kick back and have a drink to celebrate the HRIA & all the hard work put into such an outstanding event.
Mick Hobson (pictured left, far right) attending his first (but not last) HRIA event; “What a great location and a lovely well catered event. It was great opportunity to meet and network with likeminded people in the industry in a relaxed environment.”
Gareth Clegg (pictured above, second from the right) was impressed with the success of the Convention. “We obtained solid leads, which translated to numerous forklifts sold from attending the exhibition. The show was also a good opportunity to catch up with existing customers such as Kennards Hire & Alfasi Hire who provided great feedback regarding the excellent quality of our Enforcer brand especially the Rough Terrain models.”
On the Thursday, our Young Professionals attended some seminars in the meeting rooms of the BCEC. Focusing on Culture & Leadership, Technology & Innovation and Managerial Skills, our staff believed they gained insight into the future of hire, key skills for progression & some new networking connections.
“It’s not often that you get to sit down and listen to multi-decade veterans of the industry pass on their wisdom to those of us that are just at the beginning of our careers in the equipment industry. Could not have asked for better speakers.” – Chris Cunliffe
The last but most memorable event of the 3 days was the Hire Industry Excellence Awards and Gala Dinner located on the Plaza Terrance of BCEC, where Fork Force was well represented, including President of
Nishio Rent All; Mr. Masashi Nishio & his wife Mrs. Akiko Nishio and Sky Reach Managing Director; Rod Leech. The event provided HRIA with another milestone – hosting a record 513 industry peers.
The highlight of the evening was winning the Rental Company of the Year, which Fork Force is so proud and grateful to have been awarded. The judging process was comprehensive including a detailed and lengthy application, followed by on-site judging and presentations which makes it all so worth it to have been recognized as the winner. We would like to also congratulate all other category award winners and are proud to display the HRIA logo throughout our business. We look forward to attending HIRE19 in Melbourne next year!
